"Actors have used bonding for a long time," said Frith, an accredited member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. "People see their perfect white teeth and want it. Now their local dentist can do it." About 40 percent of dentists surveyed by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry in November and December 2004 said they have seen a more than 15 percent increase in patient spending on cosmetic procedures over the last five years. St. Louis dentists also are seeing the increase. "Success is self-presentation," Frith said. "Smile has a big impact on self-esteem and self-confidence.
