Children's dental health in Australia is better than many other countries,
according to a report released today by the Australian Institute of Health and
Welfare (AIHW), but children from disadvantaged socioeconomic areas have poorer
dental health than other Australian children.
The report, Socioeconomic differences in children's dental health: The
Child Dental Health Survey, Australia 2001, shows that of the 41 countries
with comparable national data, Australia had the fifth lowest average number of
decayed, missing and filled permanent teeth among 12-year-olds.
